Reactive dye on silk, stretched on pine
Printed with reactive dye on silk, a material spun by silkworms during metamorphosis, the works respond to the environment in which they are placed. Light passes through its surface. Transformation persists as a microscopic process already underway.

I construct work from relational systems, using photography, installation, and sound. Our behaviours are shaped by the structures around us, and by the push and pull of interdependent moments. We come together, or fall apart. My work traces the patterns of this condition.
My own life and relationships act as an entry point into the work, though all identifiable details are abstracted until clarity of origin is lost. What remains is intimacy: the preservation of memory without turning people into subjects.
Photographic documentation dissolves into situational atmosphere. Fragments are magnified and perspective is altered. Meaning becomes open to interpretation. The who, what, and where are gone. In their absence, we may discover ourselves.
Pixels are rendered visible as the smallest units of the image – each akin to a person on the journey that is life, holding our own place alongside others. Together we are systems, in various fields of motion.
We often question who we are, and who we should be. A photograph undergoes transformation in its pursuit to become a painting. It shifts colour and texture. Is printed on soft translucent silk. Allows itself to be stretched over and pinned into a pine frame. The act is a fallacy, for it will never be. That failure opens possibility. It evolves into something else, existing in its own condition. Therein lies its beauty.
Shifting with the breeze of passing movement, light and shadow grant its transitions. The works are named to reflect their tension, but respond gently to their environment, to position, and with time.
