Reactive dye on silk, stretched on pine
Printed with reactive dye on silk, a material spun by silkworms during metamorphosis, the works respond to the environment in which they are placed. Light passes through its surface. Transformation persists as a microscopic process already underway.

My work is not defined by origin, but by the conditions that persist beyond place.
My own life and relationships act as an entry point into the work, though all identifiable details are abstracted until clarity of origin is lost. What remains is intimacy: the preservation of memory without turning people into subjects. Photographic documentation dissolves into situational atmosphere. Fragments are magnified and perspective is altered. Meaning becomes open to interpretation. The who, what, and where are gone. In their absence, we may discover ourselves.
The dissolution of clarity holds a state of transition. It goes beyond place and stretches through time. I recognise it in the searching and waiting, between leaving and arriving — where what we thought was true no longer seems definite, and the past loosens from view.
When something is too legible, it risks being flattened into what is immediately visible and easily consumed. How something is felt rather than how it appears — is what I’m keen to reveal. The same moment can hold multiple, conflicting perspectives, none of which are fully contained by what is seen.
We often question who we are, and who we should be. In my work, a photograph undergoes transformation in a pursuit to become a painting. It shifts colour and texture. Is printed with reactive dye on permeable silk. Allows itself to be stretched over and pinned into a pine frame. The act is a fallacy, for it will never be. It is irreversibly changed by that transition, yet that failure opens possibility. It evolves into something else, existing within its own logic. Therein lies its beauty.
Shifting with the breeze of passing movement, light and shadow grant its transitions. The works are named to reflect their tension, but respond gently to their environment, to position, and with time.
Systems create us. We create them too. An ever-evolving, malleable loop.
